It’s that time of year again when we welcome a brand new cohort of grads and students into our office and spend two weeks helping them develop an exciting project for Studio Seventeen!
Over the past few years, our grads have produced some incredible work (such as ACCESS our amazing retro arcade robot and our in-office sustainability strategy) and this year has been no exception.
Our great graduates Karima, Anjolaoluwa and Chukwudinka have spent the past two weeks filming our studio space, our team and our work to put together a final showreel to promote Studio Seventeen in a fresh, modern and creative way.
It’s also been great getting to know and working with our grads this month, and we’ve had the pleasure of finding out more about their skills, interests and future plans post-graduation:
Karima:
What made you study in Nottingham?
At the open day, the course leaders were extremely friendly and made me excited to come to Nottingham. I felt an instant buzz when walking around the city and knew that I wanted to study here.
How have you found the Grads4Nottm project?
I’ve found the project extremely valuable to my future career for wanting to go into the creative industries. I have had the chance to see the studio practice in action and help with content creation to support the business. It has been a wonderful experience and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity.
What was your role in the group?
My role in the group was Project Manager by helping ensure our deadlines were met and each person in the group worked to their particular skill set. I helped a lot with the planning and editing side of the project as well as producing graphics for our poster and presentation.
What did you enjoy most about working in the studio?
I loved seeing such a positive atmosphere in the studio and being around such friendly creatives every day really made the project inspiring to complete. The studio is a lovely space to come into every day, with such vibrant colours and bright open space, which has made our two weeks thoroughly enjoyable.
What are your plans following the end of the project (and your course)?
In September I hope to complete a MA in Graphic Communication to further develop my practice and grow my confidence as a young creative.
Anjolaoluwa
What made you study in Nottingham?
I moved to Nottingham when I was 15 and even though I hated it at first, I’ve grown to really like it now. Nottingham Trent provided an excellent Broadcast Journalism course that really stood out from other universities I visited.
How have you found the Grads4Nottm project?
It’s been good. I have knowledge of creating video content and video editing, but I’ve been able to stretch my skills during this placement. It’s been a good opportunity to test my creative ability and work to a specific deadline.
What was your role in the group?
Videographer/technician/editor.
What did you enjoy most about working in the studio?
Overcoming my fear of dogs (sort of) ?.I really enjoyed working alongside the team, getting to know everyone and bouncing ideas off each other.
What are your plans following the end of the project (and your course)?
I hope to do more work experience like this to further improve my videography skills. I’m also heading into my final year of broadcast journalism at Nottingham Trent University, I hope to finish off my degree strong with hopefully a first class honours!
Chukwudinka
What made you study in Nottingham?
I really like the city, back in Nigeria, before I moved into Nottingham, I did a lot of research on different universities and how compatible they are with my course, and I found out that NTU was a really great university and Nottingham is a fantastic place of study and there are loads of opportunities here.
How have you found the Grads4Nottm project?
I found it really interesting and I know it is something that can add a huge value to my future career. I got the opportunity to learn and experience new things and build up my skill set. It was a great experience and I would love to do it again next year.
What was your role in the group?
I helped out in the videoing and editing aspect, I also contributed ideas and made sure the team was up to date with what we were doing.
What did you enjoy most about working in the studio?
I love the vibes the studio brings. I really enjoyed seeing everyone always getting along with each other and working together to accomplish something. I enjoyed the hot chocolates as well and I enjoyed working with the team. It’s a really decent place for work and I loved every single bit of it.
What are your plans following the end of the project (and your course)?
I hope to seek out more work experience opportunities and apply what I learned during the Grads4Nottm project on my course.
