Accessibility & Sustainability
Our Promise
As a business working with Studio Seventeen, you can be reassured that the service we deliver will be as ethical, sustainable, accessible and authentic as possible. From the physical space we work to the digital spaces we build, we believe in doing good for the planet and its people.
As a sustainable and accessible creative design agency, we care about creating products that not only have a limited environmental impact but are inclusive and accessible as well. Studio Seventeen is committed to becoming more sustainable and more accessible in what we use, make and produce, and we understand the importance of our role as a digital business in the industry.
We work in partnership with our clients to provide websites, printed material and design solutions that are environmentally-conscious and as sustainable as possible. We are constantly educating ourselves on the best practices for accessibility and inclusivity, and we always strive to learn, grow and change the way we work for the better.
Accessibility
We know that each web user is different, and we constantly strive to make our digital products as accessible as possible for everyone to use and enjoy.
Through our work in the studio, we follow essential WCAG guidelines to not only create accessible digital products, but test existing websites and products as well. From our blog posts and our website to our social media and our client work, we work hard to deliver accessible experiences to all. Accessibility standards are ever-evolving and Studio Seventeen works hard to educate ourselves with current guidelines and recommendations.
We’ve undertaken the following measures to ensure our work meets current accessibility standards:
- Auditing and recommendations on existing brand elements
- Colour-contrast testing on all brand colours and graphical elements
- Readable and accessible font choices
- User journeys that are predictable and easy to follow
- Image alt tags for screen readers
- Responsive design implementation to make digital products usable across devices and screen sizes
- ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes to enhance semantics for assistive technologies
- Error messaging and validation that are clear, concise and accessible
- Consistent and predictable navigation to reduce cognitive load for users
- Form field labels and instructions for intuitive input and navigation
Sustainability
We believe that every business should take responsibility for the products they produce and consume. In our studio, we understand the importance of impactful, direct changes and we’ve undertaken the following measures to help reduce our carbon footprint and increase the sustainability of our working space.
Our changes so far:
- Establishing a sustainable mindset within our working environment
- Reducing our consumption of single-use products and recycling in accordance with Nottingham City Council’s current policies
- Ensuring our websites are accessible and optimised to reduce loading times
- Sourcing products locally or from sustainable sources wherever possible
- Working with our clients to offer sustainable printed assets
- Migrating our current websites over to a hosting provider powered by renewable energy
